Alloy Steel AISI 6150 is a chromium vanadium type spring steel, similar to alloy steel 5150. The addition of vanadium, though small, is effective to achieve greater hardness. AISI 6150 has low distortion properties and is easily heat treated. SAE 6150 steel grade is suitable for oil hardening and tempering.
6150 is typically supplied in the rolled condition. When in the oil hardened and tempered condition, SAE 6150 spring steel demonstrates spring characteristics that shows excellent resistance to abrasion and shock. 6150 that has been hardened offers excellent toughness and shock resistance which make it ideal for springs or parts exposed to stress, vibration and shock.
