Stainless Steel grade 108 is the nickel free austenitic stainless steel that substitutes Nickel with Magnesium and a contains a high Nitrogen content to maintain 108’s microstructure to fully austenitic in all conditions. This grade of steel is very tough, exhibits good mechanical properties, fatigue properties and corrosion resistance superior to stainless steel grade 316L. 108 has higher levels of tensile and fatigue strength when compared to other nickel containing medical alloys. Typically used for implantable orthopedic applications like bone screws and plates, spinal fixation components, hip and knee components, hypoallergenic jewelry, orthodontic appliances, and many other medical components and instruments fabricated by forging and machining.
